I found it outrageous that Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D.-Calif.) and the Democratic leadership of the House decided to go on a 12-day vacation instead of renewing legislation that would allow our foreign Intelligence agencies to easily monitor the communications of terrorists overseas. This legislation has nothing to do with the monitoring of domestic terrorist organizations or citizens in the USA , but has everything to do with facilitating the monitoring of terrorists enemies overseas and on the battlefield during a time of war.
I believe that the House of Representatives should have taken action on the Protect America Act to make sure it didn't expire, rather than decide to go on vacation while the members of our military are facing dangers from terrorist every day.
I also believe that any telecommunications companies that assisted the the United States government in tracking down terrorists after 9/11 should be protected from lawsuits related to that assistance. This is one of the core issues at stake in the debate over the Protect America Act in the House as may unscrupulous trail lawyers have filed multi-million dollar lawsuits against the telecommunications companies who helped America fight the terrorist organizations. Money is obviously more important to these lawyers than protecting our country from another 9/11 style attack.
Ms Pelosi and the most of the democrats, but not all, have chosen to side with the trial lawyers who also happen to be the Democrat's biggest special interest group contributors. The Democratic leadership in the House made a decision to put the interests of their trial lawyer contributors ahead of the safety and security of our soldiers and their fellow Americans.
Regardless of party affiliation, Americans overwhelmingly support renewing the Protect America Act and also support protecting the companies that help our government track down terrorists from lawsuits. The Democratc and Republicans in the US Senate worked together and overwhelmingly passed legislation to save the Protect America Act and I believe the House of Representatives should do the same.
